A Short Fun Fact About Napoleon Bonaparte

Napoleon Bonaparte.  The name no doubt conjors an image in your mind of a French Hobbit with a proclivity for posing for portraits with a hand in his waistcoat .  

Here's how tall most people picture Napolean being:

The fact is, Napoleon was actually 5'7" which was actually slightly above average for the time in which he lived.  And what about his famous hand-in-waistcoat pose for portraits?  There have been many theories as to why Napoleon used this pose so much which range from him having breast cancer or a stomach ulcer to him actually flashing a Freemasonry sign.  

The truth is actually rather dull.  It was simply a popular pose for men of breeding back in the 18th and 19th centuries.  Think of it as the duck-lips from obnoxious girls on Facebook craze but for men back in the 1700's.  Observe:
